Racing Career

George Davis, an independent journeyman driver in NASCAR 1967 - 1969, raced Chevrolets in 28 races without much distinction, with the exception of one top 5 and seven top 10's, in an era when factory-backed teams were coming into being. Davis always acted as his own team owner, with the exception of his last race, when he decided after 24 laps of 300 to step out of the car for good.

In race #22 in 1967, Bobby Allison borrowed a Davis Chevrolet to finish in 4th at Macon, helping Bobby continue his momentum to finish 4th in the overall Grand National point standings.

Early in Davis's racing career, he enjoyed respect racing in the NASCAR Sportsman-Modified series, today known as the Busch series.
